DECKS REDUX

A group of ten of us hired a van and went to Tiberias specifically to eat dinner at Decks. The pressure was on your editor as all the other nine said, “It’s put up or shut up time. All we ever hear from you is Decks Decks Decks Decks.”

Was I worried? No way, Yossi!

Of course, immediately upon entering, we were greeted by the very beautiful Efrat who took us to a very special table at the end of the dock, literally well over the water. In fact, the next boat coming in to the dock there greeted us with sparklers and over the loud speaker came a rousing “Welcome Rabbi Rappoport and his friends.”

Dinner was the usual Decks salute to incredible food, good living, and gustatory satiation.

We won’t bore you with the details of the menu, but we will tell you that ten people all agreed that the meal was one of the very best. During the evening we were greeted by the lovely Yaara, manager, and we got a hug and a kiss as befits family members greeting each other. More than anything else, when you become a Decks regular, you become part of the Decks family. Frankly, that is a family we love to be a part of.

The food was taam gan eden. The food was beyond excellent if such a category exists. The duck was succulent, the foie gras was perfect, the lamb was incredible, and the pargiyot were delightful. The lamb served there is a special breed that comes exclusively from the farm of Arik Sharon. It is the best lamb we have ever eaten. Period.

Dessert was another three courses on top of dinner! Add to that soda, beer, water, mineral water, and wine, and you have a meal fit for a king’s table.

What can we say about Decks that we haven’t said before? We have eaten in restaurents throughout the (kosher) world, and we always make a point of going back to Decks.

Let’s sum up this way: Number One Son, also known as The Beast (long story, don’t ask), said this morning, “On our next trip to Israel, if you want me to come with you, include Decks on the agenda.” There you have it- couldn’t say it better ourself.

Decks- it’s worth the long flight to Israel!!

One last thing: back in January, Efrat (our waitress) had just gotten engaged. She now has a wedding date: in May of 2006. Hey gang, let’s all go over and celebrate her wedding with a dinner at Decks!!
